Slidell ,LA : Couple killed after struck by 18 wheeler along I-10 on Sunday. June 14th 2015

A couple from Louisiana was killed when their vehicle was struck by an 18 wheeler along I-10 on Sunday. The wreck caused major traffic delays in both directions for hours near the Louisiana/Mississippi line.

Troopers say a 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by 82-year-old George Wells of Mandeville, was heading east on I-10 at slow rate of speed, east of the I-59 junction near the Louisiana Welcome Center.

A Freightliner 18 wheeler was traveling behind the Corolla. Troopers say the driver of the 18 wheeler, 36-year-old Bruno Palacios of Texas, crashed into the back of the Corolla, causing both vehicles to enter the median. The 18 wheeler then flipped over, partially blocking the left westbound lane of I-10.

Wells and his wife, 80-year-old Jean Wells, were both killed in the crash. The driver of the 18 wheeler was not injured. Charges are pending.

The crash partially shut down the westbound lanes of I-10 on Sunday afternoon as the overturned 18 wheeler was removed from the scene,
