Marina, CA : One person dead after vehicle collision on Reservation Road early Thursday, Oct 1, 2015
A Salinas man was killed early Thursday after his vehicle collided with a flatbed truck on Reservation Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
Robert Bryant, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after the crash at 6:30 a.m. Bryant was driving a 2007 Nissan east on Reservation Road east of Panziera Road, near East Garrison. Due to his unsafe speed on the wet roadway, he crossed over the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic, the CHP said. Edwin Martinez Peneda, who was driving a 2000 Sterling three-axle flatbed truck towing a portable toilet trailer heading west on Reservation Road, entered a locked skid as he braked to try to avoid the Nissan. Bryant managed to steer his vehicle back into the eastbound lane and Peneda tried to get his flatbed truck back into the westbound lane. The Nissan collided with the left rear of the flatbed within the eastbound lane before coming to a rest on the westbound lane of Reservation Road. The flatbed truck rolled backward and came to rest on the shoulder.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not believed to have bene a factor. Reservation Road was closed for nearly three hours, affecting nearby traffic.
