Pelham, AL :1 dead, 3 injured after fiery crash involving fuel truck, car in Pelham on Wednesday, July 8th 2015

Pelham police say a 18-year-old from Chelsea has died from injuries sustained in this morning's fiery, head-on collision involving a tanker truck.According to a release, James Bradley Furguson was driving his Honda Accord on a southbound lane of Highway 11 around 6:42 a.m. when he reportedly crossed the centerline and collided "almost head-on" with an 18-wheeler tanker truck traveling northbound. The truck left the road and overturned, spilling 9,000 gallons of gasoline, which quickly began to burn.Authorities said the driver of the truck, who was pulled from the cab by an officer before it became engulfed by flames, sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition after being airlifted to UAB Hospital. The truck driver's passenger suffered "moderate injuries" and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.Furguson was also airlifted to UAB Hospital, but he died shortly after arriving. His passenger was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment to injuries that were considered non-life threatening, police said.The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
