Authorities say nine people have been injured in two-vehicle collision near a central New York high school. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday near Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School in Verona, 30 miles east of Syracuse. Deputies say 61-year-old Murithi Mudey of Utica lost control of his sport utility vehicle on Route 31 and veered into the opposite lane in front of a compact sedan driven by 46-year-old Sherri Card of Rome. The vehicles were destroyed in the collision. Mudey and his seven adult passengers were taken to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
