Authorities say nine people have been injured in two-vehicle collision near a central New York high school.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday near Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School in Verona, 30 miles east of Syracuse.
Deputies say 61-year-old Murithi Mudey of Utica lost control of his sport utility vehicle on Route 31 and veered into the opposite lane in front of a compact sedan driven by 46-year-old Sherri Card of Rome. The vehicles were destroyed in the collision.
Mudey and his seven adult passengers were taken to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Card was also taken to a hospital with injuries.
Mudey was ticketed for failure to keep right.
