Baton Rouge, LA : 9-year-old boy died in a two-vehicle crash in Amite on Thursday, 7th June 2018
A 9-year-old boy died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash in Amite where officials believe speed was a factor, according to the Tangipahoa Sheriff's Office.
The crash occurred on Puleston Road in Amite around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, when 35-year-old Ashlee Pierson lost control of her Nissan Sentra, striking the Nissan truck William Edwards was driving. William Ferguson, the 9-year-old, was a passenger in Edward's car, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto. She said Pierson had been driving at a high rate of speed.
The collision flipped Edward's truck, ejecting Ferguson from the vehicle, Panepinto said.
Ferguson, of McComb, Mississppi, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two drivers were taken to the hospital for moderate injuries. Officials did take blood samples from both drivers to be tested, Panepinto said.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, Panepinto said.
