Two people were killed after their vehicle ran off the road near the entrance to Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point Monday morning.
According to Trooper Mark Gore with the State Highway Patrol, the vehicle crossed the center line while heading south on NC 87, and hit a ditch, fence, and tree around 10:30 a.m. The vehicle rolled over at least once during the crash.
Gore said the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the vehicle was taken to the hospital, and was later pronounced dead.
Officials are working to notify next of kin before release the victims' identities.
