A Texas man was injured Wednesday in a single-vehicle accident near Watonga.

Daniel Gonzalez III, of Rosharon, Texas, was taken first to a hospital in Watonga, then transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted in stable condition with head, trunk and leg injuries, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 270 about 41/2 miles south of Watonga in Blaine County.

According to an OHP report, Gonzalez was driving a 2015 Chevrolet 2500 pickup north on U.S. 270 when he went off the road, hit riprap (large rocks placed to prevent washouts) at Relay Creek and went airborne for about 45 feet. His pickup hit the creek and rolled one-half time. Gonzalez was pinned for about 3 hours before being freed by Watonga Fire Department personnel.

The report listed the cause of the accident as inattention and Gonzalez’s condition as sleepy. Seat belts were in use.
