London, OH : Plain City man dies in Union County crash on Friday September 23 2016

A Plain City man was killed in a one-vehicle car crash in neighboring Union County early Friday morning.

The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Stephen Berry, according to a release from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

A 911 caller reported a 2003 Chevrolet Z-71 pickup truck crashed in a cornfield on Converse Road, south of Currier Road in Jerome Township, at about 12:30 a.m.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District and Jerome Township Fire Department responded and discovered Berry had been ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union County coroner.

According to a preliminary investigation, Berry was driving northbound on Converse Road and drove off the left side of the road. He then over-corrected, driving off the right side of the road, causing the truck to roll 120 feet into the field.

Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, authorities said. Berry was not wearing his seat belt.

The victim was transported to the Franklin County Coroner’s office where an autopsy will be performed.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and Multi-County Crash Investigation team. The crash team was assisted at the scene by the Union County Emergency Management Agency.
