Las Cruces, NM : Deming man killed in motorcycle crash on I-10, east of Deming on Thursday, April 21, 2016

A Deming man was killed Thursday after losing control of his motorcycle while traveling on Interstate 10, according to New Mexico State Police.

Police have identified the man as 22-year-old Jan Portiz.

The crash occurred near mile marker 111, east of Deming, police said. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 5:20 p.m.

Portiz was traveling west on I-10, police said, when he attempted to drive between two tractor-trailers that were driving side-by-side.

Portiz lost control of the motorcycle and fell onto the road, landing under one of the tractor-trailers, according to police. He was then struck by the trailer’s tires.

He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
