Reno , NV : Driver killed and one passenger injured in Single Vehicle Crash after driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a large rock on Sunday early Morning , January 18th 2015

Reno Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed the driver and sent one passenger to the hospital with minor injuries. Police tell News 4 just after 1 a.m. on Sunday the car was traveling southbound on Virginia St. when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a large rock. The car did several rotations and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Police say the driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say high-speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. According to RPD Lt. Robert Larson the passenger was sent to Renown with minor injuries and has been released. He also says the passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but it is not yet determined if the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Lt. Larson says there are reports of another vehicle being involved with the crash in some way, but that has yet to be determined and the driver of the other vehicle stopped at the time of the crash and is cooperating with police.

The on scene investigation left a portion of Virginia St. from Meadowood Mall Ln. to about Neil Rd. closed. The road was reopened by about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Police are not yet releasing the name of the driver until their next of kin has been notified.
