Berks County, PA : Boyertown man killed in crash on the 400 block of Landis Store Road in rural Pike Township on Tuesday, 11th June 2019

A crash Tuesday afternoon left one man dead after his vehicle struck a tree.

State Police in Reading said that Erik Wergeland, 51, of Boyertown, was pronounced dead after police were called to the scene of a crash on the 400 block of Landis Store Road in rural Pike Township.

Police said in their report that Wergeland had been operating a 2016 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and had been traveling southbound on the 400 block of Landis Store Road at a high speed.

The vehicle then left the road and struck a tree head-on, police said.

State Police said the victim had to be extricated from the vehicle and did not appear to be wearing a seat belt.

Wergeland was taken to Lehigh Cedar Crest Hospital by EMS but was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 5:44 p.m.
