North Hollywood, CA : Suspected drunken motorist arrested after 170 Freeway crash in North Hollywood on Saturday March 5 2016
North Hollywood, California
A suspected drunken motorist was arrested for allegedly causing a single-vehicle, rollover crash Saturday on the 170 Freeway, where he suffered moderate injuries and his passenger had major injuries.
The crash occurred on the southbound 170 Freeway at Sherman Way just after 4 a.m., CHP Officer Peter Bishop said.
Sylmar resident Steven Joseph Garcia, 22, lost control of his 1993 Toyota Camry, allowing it to veer to the right and eventually leave the roadway, the CHP reported.
The car rolled over after it crashed and ended up on its roof on the right side of the freeway, Bishop said.
Garcia’s passenger, Lake View Terrace resident Vasan C. Chandrasiri, 21, was ejected from the car and suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed Garcia, who suffered moderate injuries, and Chandrasiri to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, the CHP reported.
Garcia was arrested when it was determined that alcohol was a factor in the crash, authorities said. He was cleared from the hospital and booked at the LAPD’s Van Nuys jail.
