Catawba County, NC : One person dead in a hit-and-run on Highway 321 on early Monday morning August 18th 2014
North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers were actively searching for the vehicle which struck and killed a man on Highway 321 in Catawba County early Monday morning.
First responders were called to the crash scene on Highway 321 just south of Interstate 40 around 7:15 a.m.
Troopers said the vehicle responsible is a black 1996-2000 Honda Civic. It should have extensive front-end damage and a the windshield should be shattered.
The highway was shut down to one lane as investigators gathered clues. Troopers told Channel 9 that they were able to determine the make and model of the car because pieces of it were laying next to the victim in the median.
Troopers think the Civic hit the man and then plowed into the guardrail barrier in the median before driving off.
Investigators expect to be on scene all morning.
Officials have not released the name of the man who was killed.
