WINNESHIEK COUNTY, IA : Crash in Winneshiek County Iowa leaves Illinois man dead on Saturday, 29th June 2024

An Illinois man is dead after a single vehicle crash in northeast Iowa.

It happened around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon on Highway 9 near 260th Avenue, west of Decorah.

According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, a witness called 911 and said an SUV sped past him on the highway heading west, merged back into traffic, started swerving and then “disappeared” off the road into a ditch.

When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle on its roof with the driver, a 78-year-old man from Illinois, ejected.
