Dyer woman killed in tanker crash near Crete

A northwest Indiana woman was killed in a crash involving a tanker truck Thursday morning on Route 394 near south suburban Crete.

The woman was driving a Chevrolet Cruze westbound on Burville Road, and was stopped at Route 394 when she pulled out in front of a Peterbilt semi tanker traveling southbound on the expressway about 5:40 a.m., according to Illinois State Police.

The truck hit the car on the passenger side, before striking a light pole on the southwest side of the roadway, rolling on its side and coming to rest in a ditch, police said.

Sarah Sanaghan, 29, of the 500 block of 213th St. in Dyer, Ind., was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer, were she was pronounced dead at 6 a.m., the Lake County Coroner's office said.
She died of blunt force head trauma from the accident, the coroner's office said.

No hazardous materials were spilled in the crash, and the driver of the tanker was not hurt, police said.

Southbound Route 394 and Burville Road were closed for several hours, but both reopened about noon, police said.
