Frederick, MD : Two people injured after crash on southbound I-270 in Frederick on Monday morning, March 20, 2017
A crash on southbound Interstate 270 sent two people to the hospital Monday morning in Frederick, according to Maryland State Police.
The crash took place about a mile south of the exit for Md. 85 (Buckeystown Pike) at about 9:30 a.m.
Police said a white Kia Optima struck the rear of a dark four-door Saturn while both vehicles were traveling south in the left lane.
The driver of the Optima and a passenger in the Saturn, both men, were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment, but Trooper 1st Class Steve Fitzgerald could not provide details on how serious the injuries were.
State police could not confirm the names of the people involved in the crash as of 7 p.m., according to Sgt. Paul Schur, a supervisor with the Frederick barrack.
The driver of the Saturn rode in the ambulance with her passenger to the hospital, but she was not hurt, Fitzgerald said.
Several passers-by stopped to help those involved in the crash before police arrived, Fitzgerald said. While both lanes of southbound traffic were quickly cleared, traffic was delayed for several miles back to the Interstate 70 interchange.
