Mamakating, NY : Driver killed in wrong-way crash on NY’s Route 17 in Sulivan County on Sunday, December 28, 2014
State police say a motorist has been fatally injured after crashing into a vehicle while driving the wrong way on an upstate New York road.
Troopers say the accident happened when 24-year-old Nicholas Kay of Montgomery drove east in the westbound lanes about 9:15 p.m. Sunday on Route 17 in the Sullivan County town of Mamakating.
Police say Kay died when he collided head-on with a car driven by a 24-year-old man from Vestal just east of Exit 113. The other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by helicopter to a hospital.
A section of Route 17 was closed for about two hours following the accident.
