A Missouri man died Monday after a single-vehicle accident near Daleville.

Indiana State Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of 24-year-old Dion L. Crittle of St. Louis.

According to an ISP press release, authorities about 3:50 p.m. were called to the interstate’s 233-mile marker – south of the Ind. 32/Ind. 67 interchange in Daleville – where a car was reported to have left the west side of the interstate and struck a tree.

Daleville police officers and firefighters found Crittle walking away from the crash scene, and he reportedly refused to stop.

An officer and a firefighter were able to subdue him and place the Missouri man in handcuffs until they could determine what had taken place.

A short time later, authorities “noticed Mr. Crittle had become unresponsive on the ground where he was placed.”

They tried to revive him, and took Criittle by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, where he was pronounced dead.
