METHUEN, MA : Driver injured in Methuen accident on Sunday, February 18th 2017
A three-vehicle accident on Route 213 injured one driver and caused serious traffic problems Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred near Exit 3 just after 4 p.m., according to state police, who were at the scene for nearly three hours.
Traffic heading east toward Interstate 495 was delayed for several hours, witnesses said.
The vehicles involved in the accident were a 2012 Kia Soul driven by a 52-year-old Salem, N.H., man, a 1999 Nissan Altima driven by a 22-year-old Lawrence woman and a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 23-year-old man, also from Lawrence.
State police said the driver of the Kia was transported to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen with non-life threatening injuries, while the drivers of the other two vehicles were uninjured.
The Kia Soul and the Ford Crown Victoria were towed from the scene.
State police said Sunday night that during the initial response to the accident, they did not shut down any lanes of travel on the two-lane state highway, commonly known as the Loop Connector, which runs entirely inside Methuen and connects I-495 to Interstate 93.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
