Milford, ME : Teen driver crashes into Milford gas tank barrier on Sunday, December 28, 2014

A speeding car filled with what appeared to be teenagers crashed into a concrete barrier that protects gas pumps at a local store early Sunday and one teen boy was taken to the hospital, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Ray Goodspeed said.

Air bags deployed on the 2004 Chevy Cavalier when the 17-year-old male driver from Indian Island “failed to navigate” the parking lot and hit the protective barrier at the end of the gas island closest to the road at Foster’s On the Run on Main Street, the deputy said.

“I was surprised they didn’t [hit the pumps],” Goodspeed said. “It does appear speed was a factor.”

A 16-year-old male from Milford was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening after the 12:30 a.m. crash, the deputy said.

The front of the vehicle was smashed.
