CASA GRANDE, AZ : I-10 re-opened near Casa Grande after semi-truck crash on May, Monday, 22nd 2017
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say they have re-opened Interstate 10 after crash involving two semi trucks had closed the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Tucson.
The accident happened about 1 mile west of Pinal Airpark Road at milepost 232.
Investigators believe a blown tire was the catalyst for the multi-vehicle crash, said DPS spokesman, Raul Garcia.
A commercial semi was traveling west on I-10 at milepost 232 when the front-left tire of the rig blew out, said Garcia.
The driver lost control of the rig and it flipped over in the median and rolled into the oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes where another semi, a tanker truck, hit it head-on, said Garcia. A third car then struck the wreckage from the two trucks.
Garcia said one of the drivers of the trucks was injured, as were two passengers in the car involved.
As temperatures rise and cause added stress to tires, DPS remind drivers to ensure their vehicle’s tires are in good repair, equal sizing, routinely inspected and inflated to recommended pressure, said Garcia.
