Westminster, MD : Three people injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Md. 32 in Carroll County on Saturday afternoon, December 26, 2015

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Md. 32 in Westminster on Saturday afternoon, according to a Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack news release.

Mark Joseph Williams, 53, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, the driver of a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix was flown to University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma for serious injuries and is in critical but stable condition, police said.

Daniel William Collatz, 92, the driver of a 2014 Honda Civic, and passenger Mildred Collatz, 84, both of Woodstock, were injured and driven by ambulance to Sinai Hospital in Baltimore City, police said. Both are in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Williams was traveling north on Md. 32 in the area of Four Season Road and Collatz was traveling south on the same road. For an unknown reason, Williams swerved off the road, struck a pole and swerved back across the road into oncoming traffic, striking the other vehicle head-on, police said.

Charges are pending against Williams, police said. Alcohol was not a factor, but police said drugs might have been.

Starting at about 4 p.m., authorities diverted traffic around the scene of the crash, on Md. 32 just south of Changing Seasons Road, as police investigated. The scene was cleared just before 7:30 p.m., according to Maryland State Police.

Troopers from the MSP Westminster Barrack responded to the collision at 3:54 p.m. They were assisted by a Maryland State Police Advanced Collision Investigator, the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team and the Maryland State Highway Administration, according to the news release.

Emergency responders from Gamber Community and Fire Company, Reese and Community Volunteer Fire Company and Westminster Volunteer Fire Department also assisted with the collision, according to Clay Myers, a public information officer for Gamber Community and Fire Company.

The Carroll County State's Attorney's Office is providing assistance with an ongoing investigation, police said.
