PASADENA, CA : Suspected drunk driver in custody after fatal solo Pasadena crash on April, Thursday 6th 2017
One man died and two other men were injured when a car hit a curb and crashed into a light pole late Thursday night. Police arrested the driver, who they suspect was drunk.
Officers booked Diego Gomez, 22, of Altadena on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter.
Pasadena police Lt. Diego Torres said Gomez suffered cuts and bruises while a 22-year-old Pasadena man sitting in the back of the car suffered possible broken bones.
The coroner’s office did not release the dead passenger’s name because his family has not been notified. Coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter described the man as a Latino in his 20s who lived in Pasadena.
Officers and firefighters went to an injury crash on Colorado Boulevard and Michigan Avenue at 11:42 p.m.
Police believe Gomez was behind the wheel of a 1998 Cadillac heading east on Colorado Boulevard when he lost control of the car which then struck the curb and a light pole.
Lt. John Luna said the front passenger died at the scene while the passenger in the back suffered injuries.
Police initially said the surviving passenger was arrested for public intoxication. However, Lt. Torres said the man hasn’t not been arrested but could face charges. Both he and the driver ended up in a hospital.
Torres said officers have not determined yet how fast the car was traveling before the crash.
Gomez remains in custody at Pasadena jail on $100,000 bail. Booking records do not show a court date for him.
