Portland, WI : Person injured in car, semi collision in Monroe County on Tuesday, June 21, 2016

The driver of an automobile suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday after being struck by a semi truck.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred at about 1:22 p.m. at the intersection of state Hwys. 27 and 33 in the town of Portland.

A 1998 Ford Contour, heading east on Hwy. 33, pulled out from the stop sign and was struck on the passenger side by a 2014 Peterbilt semi hauling a tanker of milk. The car's driver was transported by MedLink Air to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse with life-threatening injuries, according to sheriff's office.

The semi was driven by Kevin J. Karis, 40, of Cashton. The name of the car's driver was not being released due the severity of the injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

Assisting at the scene were the Cashton First Responders, Monroe County 9-1-1 Center, the Cashton Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance Service, Wisconsin State Patrol and MedLink Air.

The crash remains under investigation.
