Caryville, TN : One Killed, Three Injured In Fiery Crash On I-75 In Campbell County on Wednesday, August 27, 2014
One person was killed and three others were injured when two tractor trailers collided with a passenger vehicle on Interstate 75 in Campbell County.
Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the incident was reported around 2 p.m. Wednesday along I-75 near Caryville, about 30 miles north of Knoxville.
Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said a tractor trailer heading northbound crossed the median and struck another semi-truck head-on. A passenger vehicle was also involved in the collision.
one of the trailers was hauling oxidizing materials, while the other was apparently hauling batteries.
Witnesses near the scene reported hearing three loud explosions after the impact.
Northbound lanes of I-75 have been closed beginning at mile marker 129, while southbound traffic has been blocked at mile marker 134. Both directions of traffic have been diverted to nearby State Highway 116.
TDOT estimated the crash would be cleared by 6:30 a.m.
