Lebanon, PA : LCSO lawman crashes into pedestrian walking in roadwayon early Saturday morning ,July 11th 2015

A Linn County Sheriff’s Office supervisor responded to a report of a pedestrian walking in Highway 20 near Lebanon early Saturday morning and accidentally struck the man with his patrol vehicle, according to a news release from Oregon State Police, which is investigating the case.

Elliott Curtis Duke, 32, of Lebanon, was wearing all black clothing and standing in the middle of the eastbound lanes, the news release states. The crash happened in a rural area east of Lebanon, and that section of Highway 20 has no street lights and minimal lighting from surrounding residences.

Duke was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with serious injuries. On Saturday afternoon, he was in critical condition, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.

The call about the pedestrian came into Linn County 911 at 3:36 a.m. Saturday from the area of Dixie Lane.

Lt. Craig Vogt responded to check the area in his Ford Expedition patrol vehicle, and was the driver who struck Duke. The crash happened at about 4 a.m. near the Straw Palace, about two miles west of where the pedestrian was reported.

After the crash, Vogt started first aid and requested medics.
