Uxbridge, MA : Teen on bike flown to hospital after crash with car in Uxbridge on Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2014
A 13-year-old's bike ride took a dangerous turn in Uxbridge Tuesday afternoon when he was going to his friend's house.
That boy was flown to the hospital and is fighting for his life, but his father says he is expected to survive.
"It was scary. The man who hit him. He was very upset. Very upset,” one neighbor said.
It happened on West Hartford Avenue in Uxbridge around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
"They were probably eight or so police cruisers, they all had the lights on, and a reconstruction team,” Bob Baker, a neighbor, said.
Firefighters treated the teenage boy at the scene but he was quickly flown to UMass Medical Center with serious injuries.
"It scares me too because I have a 2-year-old grandson and I didn't know at the time when I drove home exactly where he was,” baker said.
A reconstruction team was on the scene for several hours trying to figure out exactly how this crash happened.
"It's more traffic. And they go fast on this street too. Cause my daughter lives up the street and they come down Quarry Hill pretty fast,” a neighbor said.
Doctors say the fact that the boy was wearing a helmet likely prevented the crash from being much worse.
