Weare, N.H : 14-year-old boy injured in snowmobile crash in Weare on Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2015

A Massachusetts teenager is recovering from serious injuries after he crashed his snowmobile in Weare Saturday afternoon.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says a 14-year-old boy from Massachusetts was riding with his father and friend in the Ferrin-Bartlett Town Forest in Weare, New Hampshire, just after noon.

Two miles from the nearest road the boy struck a rock, lost control of his snowmobile and hit a tree on the right side of the trail, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Conservation officers say the crash seriously injured the boy’s leg and may have broken or bruised his ribs.

Fish and Game says it worked with Weare fire and police to stabilize the boy and transport him to an ambulance using a rescue sled. Dartmouth Hospital’s DHART rescue helicopter reportedly transported him to Dartmouth Hospital just after 2 p.m.

Conservation officers say although Weare received a foot of snow in the past week, many trails in the area have concealed hazards like boulders and water bars.
