OAKLAND, CA : Motorcyclist killed in collision at the intersection of Claremont Avenue and Clifton Street on Thursday, 27th February, 2020
A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday evening in a collision with an SUV in North Oakland, authorities said.
The collision happened at about 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of Claremont Avenue and Clifton Street. A 2017 Ford Expedition traveling south on Claremont was making a left U-turn at Clifton when it collided with a northbound 1975 BMW motorcycle, police said.
Despite efforts from paramedics, the motorcyclist died at the scene, police said.
The motorcyclist was identified as a 61-year-old Oakland resident; his name has not been released pending notification of family.
The driver of the SUV was identified as a 26-year-old Berkeley resident who stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators.
It’s not yet clear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, police said. Anyone with information about the incident may contact traffic investigators at 510-777-8570.
