Jefferson City, TN : Wrong-way driver causes crash on April, Tuesday 11th 2017
Jefferson City, Tennessee
Four people were hurt in a three-car collision caused by a wrong-way driver on Highway 11E in Strawberry Plains last Tuesday night, troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol report.
The injured persons were taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center by Jefferson County Emergency Medical Service paramedics following the 8:40 p.m. crash just west of the Elmwood Drive intersection, Trooper Erik Raines reported. Lanes were blocked on the highway for over two hours.
Raines reported that driver John J. Bacharach, 48, of Knoxville, left a residence on the east side of the highway but accidentally turned southbound into the northbound lanes. The driver apparently failed to realize he should have turned to go northbound and then used a median crossover to head in the other direction, the trooper stated.
The 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Bacharach struck a northbound 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by Joshua E. Howard, 31, of Talbott. A third vehicle, also northbound, struck Howard’s car just after the initial impact, Raines reported. The driver of the third car, a 2008 Kia, was Zachary Beard, 25, of Jefferson City.
A passenger in Bachrach’s car, Casey Holder, 31, of Seymour, was also taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Bachrach was cited by troopers for failure to exercise due care and driving the wrong way. New Market Volunteer Firefighters responded with 17 members and four engines.
