HUNTLEY, IL : 3 people injured after Huntley man crashes car into Sun City home on Saturday, February 4th 2017

Two Huntley residents were injured Saturday after a car drove into their bedroom, a police official said.

Huntley Police Deputy Chief Michael Klunk said police responded about 11:30 p.m. to the 13300 block of Honeysuckle Drive in Sun City Huntley for the crash.

A 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by 84-year-old Donald Helfer of Huntley, crashed into the bedroom of the residence where a man and woman were, Klunk said.

All three people involved were transported to Centegra Hospital – Huntley, Klunk said. He did not know their conditions as of Monday afternoon.

Helfer was traveling south on Hemmer Road when he failed to yield at a stop sign at Del Webb Boulevard, Klunk said. Helfer drove through the three-way intersection, up a berm and into the house, Klunk said.

Helfer was cited for failure to yield to avoid a crash, Klunk said. Klunk said he did not know whether drugs or alcohol were a factor, and the department had requested a toxicology report as a routine part of the investigation.

The house was boarded up and being inspected by the village on Monday, Klunk said.

In 2004, a vehicle also drove through the intersection and into a berm at the same location, but did not crash into the house, Klunk said.
