Clay Township, IN : LaGrange County girl dies in bicycle accident in the area of 250 West, LaGrange on Wednesday morning, March 22, 2017

A 13-year-old Amish girl was killed Wednesday morning while she was riding her bike on 050 North in the area of 250 West, LaGrange.

LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Arron Knisley said, Lovina Schwartz was riding her bicycle east on 050 North before 8 a.m. when she was struck by a 2011 GMC SUV driven by Benjamin A. Hanlon, 37, Middlebury, who was driving in the same direction.

Investigators determined Hanlon failed to yield to the girl and hit her. Knisley said "blinding sunlight" was a contributing factor in the cause of the crash.

Knisley said the collision appears to be an accident, and Hanlon at this time isn’t facing any criminal charges.

The girl was transported from the scene to a Fort Wayne area hospital by Samaritan where she died. The incident is still under investigation.
