Santa Clara, CA : A 17-year-old Saratoga boy was killed when he lost control of his car and hit a tree at Skyline Boulevard On Saturday May 7th, 2016

A 17-year-old Saratoga boy was killed Saturday when he lost control of his car and hit a tree on Skyline Boulevard.

California Highway Patrol officers received a call at 11:57 a.m. and responded to the scene on southbound Skyline (Highway 35), south of Alpine Road, near the border of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

Upon arrival, officers found the teen driver trapped inside his 2015 Audi four-door sedan, which had rolled onto its side.

CHP Officer Art Montiel said it appears the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed on the wet roadway when the car veered off the road and crashed into the tree.

Cal Fire personnel extricated the teen, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The San Mateo County Coroner's Office had not released the youth's name as of late Saturday.

It does not appear the victim was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the CHP.

Traffic on the highway was blocked in both directions for about four hours following the crash. The road was reopened at 4:10 p.m.
