McPherson, KS : Two killed in fiery rollover accident north of McPherson Interstate 135 on Thursday afternoon July 24th 2014
Two people were killed Thursday afternoon in a fiery rollover accident just north of McPherson on I-135, Kansas Highway Patrol trooper Ben Gardner said.
The accident happened at 3:55 p.m., according to a crash log. A 2014 Nissan Rogue was traveling northbound on I-135 about three miles north of McPherson when it attempted to pass another car, cutting off a 2004 Ford Expedition.
The Expedition struck the back of the Rogue, which caused it to swerve, according to the log. The vehicle entered the west ditch, rolled and caught fire, Gardner said.
The southbound lanes in the area were shut down to make room for medical helicopters landing at the scene.
Both the 69-year-old driver, Kay Dianne Pautz, and her passenger, 70-year-old Gary Walter Pautz, were pronounced dead, according to the log. The two were from Alexandria, Minn.
The driver of the Rogue, Pamela Pierce, 56, of Hutchinson, was listed as having a “possible injury,” according to the crash log.
