Ocean City, MD : Motorcycle operator killed when his vehicle crashed into a pickup truck on Coastal Highway on Thursday, May 19, 2016
A man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving slammed into a pickup truck in Ocean City on Thursday, prompting rescue workers to use huge tarps to shield the scene from a host of onlookers.
The crash, which Ocean City police spokeswoman Lindsay Richard said occurred at 28th Street and Philadelphia Avenue, involved the two vehicles after police officers tried to stop the motorcycle for traffic infractions.
Richard said the driver of the motorcycle was a man and died as a result of the crash. Richard did not have anymore information about the deceased or about the person driving the truck.
An officer not from Ocean City who was in town for events this weekend previously tried to stop the man on the motorcycle after he committed traffic violations, Richard said. The motorcyclist sped off, she said.
The allied law enforcement agency attempted to stop the motorcycle for a traffic violation minutes before the collision, a press release from the town states.
At no point did officers pursue the man on the motorcycle with lights and sirens, Richard added.
A video on social media appeared to show police following the motorcyclist.
