A woman died Friday in a Clearfield County crash, according to state police at Clearfield.
Cindy Gausman, 34, was identified by state police. Her daughter, who is 11 years old, was taken by helicopter to a hospital for suspected serious injuries.
Gausman, of Brisbin, was driving a Pontiac Grand Am at about 7:35 a.m. when she was unable to negotiate a right hand curve on Green Acre Road, police said in a release. The vehicle crossed over the opposing lane and hit a tree off the left side of the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The child was extricated by first responders and taken to UPMC Altoona’s trauma center.
Ramey, Houtzdale and Madera fire companies, Houtzdale Ramey EMS and Clearfield County coroner Mike Morris assisted police at the scene of the crash.
Morris said an autopsy for Gausman is scheduled to be at 5:30 p.m.
The crash is under investigation by police, who said the vehicle was traveling “at a high rate of speed” prior to the crash.
