Roanoke,VI : Crashes brought on by icy roads keep crews busy; firefighter injured in crash on January, Monday 8th 2018
Three people were taken to the hospital Monday night after a car slid into a fire truck in Roanoke, police said.
The Roanoke Fire-EMS truck drove off the side of the road near the corner of Salem Turnpike and Caldwell Street Northwest about 8 p.m., police spokesman Scott Leamon said. Those hospitalized with minor injuries include a firefighter as well as two people from the vehicle that hit the truck, Leamon said.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the truck was issued a summons for not having an operational license, Leamon said.
Slick roads were a challenge for drivers Monday night. Police and rescue crews were spread out all over the city dealing with dozens of crashes that were mostly weather-related. Crews set up barriers throughout the city to temporarily block off areas and bridges covered with sheets of black ice so salt trucks could treat the roads.
