BEREA, OH : Woman extorted on social media; drunk woman crashes Jetta into Jeep: Berea police blotter on Sunday, 17th January 2021
A Park Place woman told police Jan. 17 that she was the victim of an extortion plot on social media.
The woman said that about nine months ago, she met a man on LinkedIn and/or Twitter. He suggested they communicate on Google Hangouts. She agreed, and the two started an online relationship. At the man’s request, the woman sent nude photos of herself.
On Jan. 13, a second man emailed the woman and said he had the photos. He said he would send the photos to her family and employer unless she paid him $150,000. The woman confronted the first man about this, and he said that the second man had hacked his email account to obtain the photos. He offered to pay the hacker $80,000 if she paid $70,000.
The second man sent the woman’s father a Facebook message on Jan. 17. He also posted a photo of her in a towel on Facebook. Police are investigating.
