Woodland, CA : Ukiah man dies in Woodland highway collision on Friday, 14th February, 2020
A Ukiah man died Friday as the result of a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 in Woodland.
The California Highway Patrol began receiving calls about the incident at 4:25 p.m. and officers with the agency’s Woodland Area office were dispatched to the scene on the southbound side of the highway just south of the County Road 102 overpass.
“Following a preliminary investigation, it was determined a Chevrolet was traveling on Interstate 5 southbound, south of County Road 102 in the left lane,” said Public Information Officer Rodney Fitzhugh. “A Volkswagen was ahead of the Chevrolet. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet was unable to slow or stop his vehicle prior to colliding with the Volkswagen.
“As a result of this collision, the Volkswagen was pushed in a southerly direction, where it collided with a Ford,” Fitzhugh continued. “At the scene of the collision, the driver of the Volkswagen succumbed to the injuries they sustained.”
The Yolo County Coroner’s Office identified the Volkswagon’s driver as 40-year-old Jose Moliana Felix of Ukiah on Tuesday.
Passengers in the Volkswagon, a 38-year-old woman and two girls ages 4 and 9 — all of Ukiah — were transported to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for care. The woman sustained major injuries. No statuses were reported for the minors.
The Chevrolet’s driver, a 34-year-old Elk Grove man, sustained minor injuries, according to the CHP report.
