Clute, TX : A 4-year-old boy and his 60-year-old grandmother were killed in a crash on May, Monday, 22nd 2017
A 4-year-old boy and his 60-year-old grandmother were killed after an Alvin ISD school bus struck a Chevy Cobalt's rear end, pushing the sedan onto oncoming traffic at the intersection of Highway 6 and CR 99, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Stephen Woodard said.
Two other vehicles were involved, but both drivers are reported to be in stable condition.
Police are investigating the crash, and say the school bus driver is cooperating with authorities, he said.
"We are ruling this particular crash, we believe he failed to control speed," Woodard said. "The school bus driver is cooperating fully with our investigation by giving a blood sample to ensure he was safe to drive on the roadway."
Alvin ISD school buses also have surveillance footage, which will help authorities in the investigation, he said.
The boy and his grandfather were taken by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where the boy was pronounced dead, Woodard said.
The 60-year-old grandmother was taken to Alvin Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, he said.
Police will release the deceased identities' after next of kin has been notified, Woodard said.
