Louisville, KY : One person killed in single vehicle crash in southern Jefferson County on Friday morning, December 18, 2015
One person has died following a single-vehicle crash in southern Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office says Jeffrey Chambers, 51, died of smoke inhalation and heat-related injuries. He was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m. at the scene.
The wreck was reported around 1:45 Friday morning on Cooper Chapel Road near Pennsylvania Run Road. That's close to Quail Chase Golf Course.
Police say a car traveling northbound in the 7200 block failed to negotiate the turn, and drove off the road.
The car struck some shrubbery and a fence before becoming pinned to a tree.
A witness passing by noticed a small fire had started in the engine, and stopped to try to free the driver.
The car then erupted into flames, and the witness was unable to get the driver free.
Investigators were on scene for several hours.
They say Chambers was trapped in the car and the coroner's office says he died as a result of the fire.
Chambers' funeral arrangements will be handled by Owen Funeral Home on Dixie Highway, the coroner's office says.
