One person was killed in a wrong-way crash on Ellington Parkway on Monday morning.
The crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m. when a car entered Ellington Parkway going the wrong direction, according to Metro Police dispatch.
Northbound lanes of Ellington Parkway were closed north of Trinity Lane for a couple of hours after the crash.
Police later identified the victim as 83-year-old Doris Vanmoerkerke.
Police believe Vanmoerkerke got on Ellington Parkway somewhere around Briarville Road and was traveling southbound in the northbound lane.
Vanmoerkerke hit another vehicle head-on. The driver of that vehicle, 47-year-old Melton Fields, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
Vanmoerkerke was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said there was no evidence on the scene to suggest she was impaired.
