ALLENTOWN, PA : Police follow trail to car involved in hit-and-run on Sunday, 4th September 2016

After Allentown police followed a fluid trail early Sunday morning that led to vehicle involved in a hit-and-run, the owner of the car showed up not long after carrying an open bottle of liquor. Jorge E. Amparo, of West Tilghman Street, now faces resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and marijuana possession charges. District Judge Joseph Pochron arraigned Amparo Sunday, and he’s free after posting bail $2,500 bail. Police were called to the area of Sixth and Liberty streets just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday to investigate a reported hit-and-run crash. Officers followed a fluid trail to the 400 block of Green Street, where they found the wrecked car.As the vehicle was being towed, Amparo approached the tow truck driver and officer to tell him that the car was his, but denied that it had been in a crash or that he had been driving. The 22-year-old was allegedly holding an open bottle of Hennessy cognac and smelled of alcohol, according to court records. The officer tried to take Amparo into custody for public drunkenness, but he pulled away and ran before being tackled in the area of Green and Penn streets. Police said he continued to struggle until a second officer arrived to help apprehend Amparo. A search allegedly turned up a baggie of marijuana in his pants pocket.
