Aiken County, SC : Bath man killed, son injured in Aiken County crash on Saturday, 1st September 2018
A man was killed after the truck he was driving struck a tree Saturday morning in Aiken County.
The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Daniel J. Lewallen, of Bath, S.C., according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
Lance Cpl. David Jones, of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said the crash occurred at the intersection of S.C. 302 and Storm Branch Road about 7 a.m.
Lewallen was driving a 2002 Ford F150 truck on Storm Branch Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed over S.C. 302 (Silver Bluff Road) and struck a large tree, according to an email from the coroner’s office. Jones said neither Lewallen nor his son, who was a passenger in the truck, were wearing seat belts. Lewallen was pronounced dead at the scene. His son was taken to AU Medical Center. Jones said he was in serious condition.
According to the coroner’s office, Lewallen and his son were going hunting when the crash occurred.
