RYAN TWP, PA : Mahanoy City man fatal crash victim on April, Monday 3rd 2017
A Mahanoy City man died Monday afternoon when the car he was driving struck the back of a pickup truck and then careened into a tree along the Burma Road.
The victim was identified by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky as Paul A. Winans, 54, of West Spruce Street.
Truskowsky said he pronounced Winans, who was wearing his lap and shoulder belts, dead at the scene of the crash at 1:45 p.m.
State police Trooper Christopher Rooney of the Frackville station said the crash occurred about 1:30 as Winans was driving south on the Burma Road, Route 1006, about a mile west of Brockton Mountain Drive.
Rooney said Winans was attempting to pass a pickup truck driven by Mary F. Clickner, 54, also of Mahanoy City, in an area where passing is legal. As Winans began to pass Clickner’s vehicle, he sideswiped it, causing him to lose control and drive toward the east shoulder of the road.
Rooney said the Winans vehicle went off the east side of the road and struck a tree, causing it to spin counterclockwise and come to a stop on its wheels facing west about 5 feet off the roadway.
Clickner was able to safely stop her vehicle on the right shoulder of the road after it was struck, Rooney said.
Clickner and her passenger — Daniel Dansavage, 57, of Mahanoy City — were not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.
