ROCHELLE, IL : Driver killed in crash near Rochelle on Friday, December, 15th 2017

A Marengo man was killed in a car fire early Friday morning.

Benjamin R. Koelper, 31, was southbound near state Route 251 and Twombley Road when his car left the road, struck a tree, and caught fire, state police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say they’re unsure why Koelper left the road, and the accident remains under investigation.
