GAFFNEY, SC : Gaffney woman killed in crash on Peachoid Road on Monday, August 21, 2017

One woman has died after losing control of her car and crashing into a utility pole near Gaffney.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler identified the victim as Kathy Littlejohn Byers, 65, of 172 Zelure Road.

Fowler said Byers was the only person in the single-vehicle crash. He said she was headed south on Peachoid Road around 8:36 p.m. Monday when her car ran off the right side of the road, came back on the pavement and skidded across both lanes before hitting a utility pole.

Authorities say Byers was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Byers is the 14th person to die in a traffic accident in Cherokee County so far this year.
