EAST BRIDGEWATER, MA : Sharon man charged in East Bridgewater crash on Monday, December, 25th 2017
East Bridgewater, Massachusetts
A Sharon man was arrested for drunk driving Monday after he got into an argument while driving and crashed into a ditch in East Bridgewater, police said.
Joshua Gammon, 24, of 51 Harold St. in Sharon was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and domestic assault and battery.
At about 2 a.m. Monday, several callers reported that a vehicle with two occupants had crashed in a ditch, about 10 feet back from the road, in the area of 243 Whitman St.
When police arrived, Gammon had fled the scene on foot but was on his way back to the crash site, East Bridgewater Police Sgt. Paul O’Brien said.
Gammon’s girlfriend, who was also in the black 2001 Nissan Ultima at the time of the crash, remained at the scene.
Both Gammon and his girlfriend told police they had been arguing when the crash occurred.
“What happened was a guy and his girlfriend were driving and they got into some kind of a domestic dispute in the car,” Sgt. O’Brien said.
However, the pair told police differing stories about what happened next.
Gammon’s girlfriend said she was in the passenger seat when Gammon became aggressive, pushing her head away from him. She said Gammon suddenly pulled the car’s emergency brake, causing the car to slide out of control on the icy roads and crash.
However, Gammon told police he was not driving. He said he was riding in the passenger seat while his girlfriend was behind the wheel.
“He claimed (his girlfriend) pulled the emergency brake up, causing the car to slide off the road and crash,” O’Brien said.
