Los Angeles, CA : One injured in fiery crash on 5 Freeway to 110 Freeway connector road just north of Elysian Park on Tuesday, August 19, 2014
Two vehicles collided on a freeway connector road just north of Elysian Park today, causing one of them to burst into flames and injuring a motorist suspected of being intoxicated, authorities said.
The collision occurred on the transition lanes between northbound Arroyo Seco (110) Parkway and the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway around 12:45 a.m. according to the California Highway Patrol online incident log. The impact caused one of the vehicles to catch fire, it said.
CHP officers attempted to douse the flames, but the fire continued to burn even after they emptied the fire extinguishers they carry in their vehicles, the incident log reported.
The driver who was injured was transported to a hospital and also taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.
