Lower Salem,OH: 2 killed in multiple vehicle accident on I-77 in Washington County on August, Saturday 19th 2017
Two people were killed in a multiple vehicle accident in Washington County Saturday morning.
Stephen J. Long, 67, of Union, West Virginia, was operating a motorcycle southbound on I-77 when police say his motorcycle made contact with a pickup truck and trailer.
It occurred near mile marker 12 in Salem Township around 11:40 a.m.
Stephen Long was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kristi J. Long, 66, of Union, a passenger on the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Both passengers on the motorcycle were wearing protective helmets at the time of the crash.
The Ohio Department of Transportation, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Devola Volunteer Fire Department, Lower Salem Volunteer Fire Department, and Washington County Prosecutor assisted on the scene.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Marietta post.
